The Trail Volunteer Fund was established in 2007, and the first grant was made in early 2008. Since then, the Fund made about a dozen grants each year. To date, the Fund has supported 234 projects on 52 trails, including 21 on various sections of the Great Allegheny Passage, 21 of the projects have been carried out by youth groups, including several Eagle Scout and Girl Scout Star Award projects. Grants have supported equipment and materials for maintenance equipment, bridge and trail surfacing, facilities such as picnic and camping areas, signage, fencing, and numerous other projects.
