Deckers Creek

Beautification of Pleasant Street Bridge

What is the Project: Funds are needed for the paint supplies for a color-block art mural on the pillars of the Pleasant Street Bridge. Pleasant Street routes over the Deckers Creek Rail-Trail in trail mile 1 in Morgantown, WV. The bridge passes over the rail-trail, creating an opportunity for art on the 4 bridge pillars next to the trail. This work will cover existing graffiti, add color to the drab, grey concrete, and foster a vibrant, inviting atmosphere.

What will the volunteers do: This year, volunteers will remove brush, create a new mulch walking path \near Stanley’s Spot Dog Park, paint art on the bridge pillars, and add a dog-themed mural and sculpture. Approximately 30 volunteers are expected to work over two days. On the first day, tasks include clearing vines, scraping away loose paint and debris, and priming the pillars. The second day will focus on taping the color block design and painting. The color blocking design is easy for people of all ages and abilities to paint. Similar work was completed on the Spruce Street Bridge, totaling 12 hours for each volunteer during the weekend. This group has a committed core team and a wide network of community supporters that will contribute time to making this project happen.
