Porcupine damage has become a growing and costly issue on the timber components of our rail trail bridge over Vineyard Run. Over time, repeated gnawing has compromised key structural members, weakened railings, and exposed untreated wood to accelerated rot and weathering. What may appear to be cosmetic damage is, in reality, a public safety concern and a long-term liability. This bridge is a critical connector along the trail, used daily by walkers, cyclists, families, and visitors exploring our region.

We are respectfully requesting grant funding to repair and reinforce the damaged bridge elements, replace compromised lumber, and implement preventative measures to deter future porcupine activity.
