Rehabilitate three small pedestrian bridges which have deteriorated over the years

What is the Project: The proposed project is to rehabilitate three small pedestrian bridges that have deteriorated over the years. The first pedestrian bridge is in Jones Mills, PA in Westmoreland County, along a newly resurfaced 1.7-mile trail section. The remaining two bridges are in Indian Head, PA in Fayette County. The walking surface of all of the bridges are currently worn and slippery, and the Jones Mills bridge specifically is starting to rot through, causing foot-sized holes in the walking surface. The proposed project will use volunteers to replace the decking and railings of the bridges

What will the volunteers do: Community volunteers with experience in bridge rehabilitation will lead the project by acquiring the required materials and conducting all necessary labor. MWA’s Trail Committee and community members, who have experience in construction, will provide all of the labor necessary for rehabilitating the pedestrian bridge along the Indian Creek Valley Trail in both Jones Mills, PA and Indian Head, PA. The volunteers will gather the required materials, remove the deteriorating decking, and install new decking and railing on the bridges. The project will be done in phases with an estimation of eight community volunteers working on the Jones Mills bridge and six community volunteers working on the Indian Head bridges
