Deckers CreekCreate a historical exhibit in the Masontown Trailhead welcome centerWhat is the Project: Create a historical exhibit in the Masontown Trailhead welcome center. The exhibit will be located in a 1907 Elkins Coal and Coke Building that was renovated and repurposed as a welcome center and restroom facility at mile 13.5 of the Deckers Creek Rail Trail. The funds will be used to print historical photographs and to purchase frames. The goal of this project is to educate visitors on the West Virginia railroad and cultural history that is connected to the Deckers Creek Rail Trail. What will the volunteers do: A local Girl Scout from Morgantown High School working on this project. She is researching the history of the region, finding historical photos to feature, and writing captions to explain their significance. She and the other volunteers will spend hours on more historical research, and install the prints.
