Mon RiverFunds are needed to establish a pollinator garden at the Collins Ferry TrailheadWhat is the Project: Funds are needed to establish a pollinator garden at the Collins Ferry Trailhead on the Mon River Rail-Trail. The area around the parking will be planted with native plants and flowers that include Joe Pye weed, Goldenrod, New England Aster, and Common Milkweed. AddiWonal plants will be planted next to the Collins Ferry weather shelter. This is located near the Suncrest and Collins Ferry neighborhoods and close to Star City and Morgantown, WV. It is a popular section of trail with mature woods, wildflowers, waterfalls, and scenic views of the Monongahela River. What will the volunteers do: Mike Breiding, a local naturalist and MRTC volunteer, is the project leader. He has already sourced some native plants and worked with MRTC on prepping the site. Some plants are being donated by local residents. Volunteers will be recruited from the trail community, local Rotary Clubs, and local cyclist groups. Volunteers will prepare the site once topsoil has been delivered, plant flowers and other native plants, water, and weed, and install pollinator habitat signs. What Are You Asking the Fund to Provide: Funds are for the purchase and delivery of top soil, pollinator habitat signs, metal sign posts, and na2ve plants. Some plants Grant funded February 2024 |
