Mon River

build a weather shelter near mile 4.5 of the Mon River Rail-Trail, between Star City, WV and Point Marion, PA (Sheepskin Trail)

What is the Project:

What is the Project? Funds are needed for the construction of a weather shelter near mile 4.5 of the Mon River Rail-Trail, between Star City, WV and Point Marion, PA (Sheepskin Trail). The shelter will be built near the junction of a new neighborhood walking and biking path with the rail-trail. Once a road to a ferry crossing, the Collins Ferry Connector will now connect the Morgantown Suncrest Neighborhood to the 29-mile Mon River Rail-Trail. This shelter will provide a resting spot, shelter from storms, and a destination spot for those coming from Morgantown, Star City, or Point Marion. It is a popular section of trail with mature woods, wildflowers, waterfalls, and scenic views of the Monongahela River. The Mon River Rail-Trail system, which includes the Mon River, Caperton, and Deckers Creek Rail-Trails is 48 miles long in Northcentral West Virginia with connections to the Marion County Trail to the south and the Sheepskin Trail to the north

What Are You Asking the Fund to Provide? Purchase of materials for trail weather shelter, Materials include lumber, concrete, roof sheathing, roof metal, gravel, and hardware.

Shelter to be built by MRTC trail volunteers and the Morgantown Rotary Club and Country Road Cyclists members who have expressed an interest in helping with trail amenity projects. We likely will see a mix of trail users and community members working together.
