Mon RiverWeather ShelterWhat is the Project: Funds are needed for the construction of a weather shelter near mile 2 of the Mon River Rail-Trail. The Mon River Rail-Trail is 29 miles long from the Pennsylvania / West Virginia state line to Prickett’s Fort State Park where it connects to the Marion County Rail-Trail. Outside of Morgantown city limits, the rail trail is remote, without any amenities such as restrooms, drinking water, or services. It is a fairly flat and beautiful section of trail with mature woods, wildflowers, waterfalls, and views of the Monongahela River. This weather shelter will provide a place to relax on good weather days and provide shelter from storms when needed. This shelter will also serve those using the Sheepskin Trail in Fayette County, PA. This project is now the focus of our MRTC trail volunteers and working with a Morgantown business (Laurel Aggregates) that is offering time for employees to have community service hours. Funds are needed to purchase materials for the shelter including wood, sakrete, shingles, and gravel. This shelter will model the other shelters on the rail trail with a bench on each side to allow seating for approximately 10 people. What will the volunteers do: What Are You Asking the Fund to Provide: Grant funded October 2020 |
