We are asking the Trail Volunteer Fund to provide the monetary means to purchase trail clearing maintenance tools and their associated safety equipment for our volunteers, for a total estimated cost of $X,XXX. The ICV trail committee determined we need the attached list. In purchasing quality tools we hope to use them for years to come. Itemized costs are in Table 1 on the following page.

Assuming that 15 large trees fall on the trail every year with it taking at least 2 hours with 2 volunteers on-site to completely clear them, and with volunteer time valued at $27.20/hour, volunteer match for major tree work will be $X,XXX per year alone. In addition to that, we estimate it will take a combined 3 hours every month for trimming of encroaching brush and weeds during warmer months (May-September); this comes to $408 of volunteer time. We should get, at a minimum, 7 good years of use out of these tools, and with that in mind the total value of volunteer match over time is $XX,XXX—this value well outweighs the cost. Training will be provided for all volunteers in the safe use of tools such as chainsaws.
