Deckers CreekDirectional Town Amenity Sign for Long Alley Trail ConnectorWhat is the Project: Funds will be used to purchase one two-sided T2 Directional Town Amenity “totem” sign that is modeled after the Great Allegheny Passage way-finding signs. This sign which is 1’3 ½” wide and 7’2” high has a base plate that is embedded into a concrete foundation. It will take four volunteers and several days to prepare the site and install it. This sign will provide way-finding, off of the Deckers Creek Rail-Trail to a community park that is less than ½ a mile from the trail and town businesses that are less than a mile from the trail. There is a small 285-foot gap between the Deckers Creek Rail-Trail and the road called Long Alley that once developed would connect the rail trail to a Reedsville neighborhood and beautiful community park that has many amenities including restrooms, drinkable water, pavilions with picnic tables, and a playground. The park is in a beautiful setting with mature trees for shade and a large rock outcropping that makes it a nice public space. This paved, fairly flat, neighborhood road connector is less than half a mile (.37) from the trail to the park. The Long Alley Trail Connector will also ease access to downtown Reedsville businesses at the 4-way stop including a coffee shop, pizza joint, bed & breakfast, and garden nursery. The Deckers Creek Rail-Trail is a 19-mile rail-trail for non-motorized use, primarily walking, running and biking and connects to the 29-mile Mon River Rail-Trail in Morgantown, WV. The town of Reedsville has confirmed that the public easement for Long Alley ends at the rail trail. City officials will establish and enforce town property ownership once this connector to the rail trail is built.
