Yough River

Install radio repeater to provide communications at remote locations on the trail

What is the Project:

This project installed a radio repeater to provide communications between the Connellsville base station and volunteers at remote locations on the Youghiogheny River Trail segment of the Great Allegheny Passage.

Before the project, the section of the Yough River Trail between Dawson and Layton does not have radio or cell phone service available for assistance or emergency help due to the terrain of the trail. This project installed a radio repeater system located in such a way that our volunteers can maintain radio contact with the trail's base station at Bikes Unlimited in Connellsville.

The grant from the Trail Volunteer Fund will help to purchase the radio repeater and tower, which will be installed by volunteers and provide radio service to volunteers.
